A lot has been going on at TokBox Towers the last couple of weeks. We’ve said goodbye to the Ultimate Intern, Andrew; we have welcomed a couple of new members to the TokBox Team, John and Jon (makes it easy to remember their names), we’ve made some improvements and additions to the site, not least of which was the addition of Etherpad, a real-time document collaboration tool, and today’s exciting news is the launch of the TokBox Application for Ning Networks.
Now, Ning Network Creators can add TokBox video chat to their network and enable their members to video chat live via TokBox. Seems the team at Ning thinks it’s pretty cool, they chose us as one of their ‘Staff Picks’.
One network (Teens for Christ, Hawaii) started using it even before the official launch today (early adopters!), so if you’re interested you can look there for inspiration. Otherwise, if you have a Ning Network, it’s super simple to get started by simply going to the ‘Manage’ tab in your account. If you’re a member of a Network, not the Creator, it’s just as simple – start campaigning the Network Creator to get TokBox Video Chat added!
There’s more to come in the next few weeks, so you’ll be hearing from me again soon.
Micky

Greetings. I am wondering how tokbox on a Ning network should be communicated to the members. It’s installed and running but what should we tell them?
How do you start a videochat with a member who is currently online on Ning network? The only place where you see who’s online is in the Ning chat – but you cannot launch videochat from there.
So a little help how network admins should actually use and make tokbox popular would be helpful.
Thanks

Thanks for the note.
Right now, the best way to start a call on your Network is to start the call and then send out the call URL via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace (if you want a large group to join) or via email if you want to invite a select group.
We’re working on improving the app right now as well as talking with the Ning team to better connect the Ning app to each individual Network. Stay tuned!
